MINNEAPOLIS -- The Shakopee Sabers scored two goals in the third period, the second on an open net, to defeat Orono 2-0 in the Schwan Cup Red Division girls' hockey championship game Wednesday at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.
The teams were scoreless through two periods until Andrea Scanlan scored for the Sabers at 10:41 of the third period, with an assist by Alyssa Hawes. Nicole Anderson scored on an empty net to ice the game at 16:49.
Until recently, Scott County had the notoriety of being among the Minnesota counties with the highest incidence of DWI (driving while intoxicated) fatalities.
Lebens
Chris and Kristin Lebens of Shakopee announce the birth of their daughter, Reagan Patricia Lebens, who was born at 10:37 a.m. July 20, 2008, at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville.
Reagan weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and was 22 inches long. She has blue eyes and brown hair.
Wright-Bruff
Rick and Colleen Wright of Shakopee announce the engagement of their daughter, Christina Wright, to Patrick Bruff, son of John and Jane Bruff of Flemington, N.J.
Christina is a 2000 graduate of Shakopee High School and is pursuing a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University.
Patrick is a 2001 graduate of North Hunterdon High School in Annandale, N.J., and served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2002-06.
A July 4, 2009, wedding is planned at Minnesota Harvest Apple Orchard in Jordan.
The Shakopee girls hockey team will face Orono today at 5 p.m. for the championship of the Schwan Cup Red Division.
The game will take place at Ridder Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
Shakopee reached the title game by defeating Totino-Grace 4-2 on Monday and Mound-Westonka 4-1 on Tuesday.
Orono defeated Mankato West 6-3 and Coon Rapids 8-3 to reach the title game.
The second of two men was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in connection with a Savage marijuana distribution operation.
U.S. District Court Judge James Rosenbaum sentenced Jorge Marques-Apodaca, 27, Bloomington, to two and a half years in prison and three years' supervised release on one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute marijuana.

Pat Budnik of Shakopee recently received a National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Minnesota Chapter Sylvie award for volunteerism.
