As summer winds down, Three Rivers Parks District continues to offer programming to keep children busy and interested in the world around them. See what’s coming up:
Prosecutors have reached a plea agreement with a Shakopee man who authorities say was drunk and heavily speeding on Feb. 7 when his vehicle crashed head-on into another vehicle, killing a Prior Lake man.
First off, let me say resoundingly that this is not my official foray into the political fray. My inspiration for the blog was derived from drive-time morning radio, and specifically the following song played.
The Shakopee High School Football Team will sell softener salt door-to-door Sept. 1-12. Available for $6 each are 50-pound bags of Cargill Solar Crystal and Cargill Pellet or 40-pound bags of Cargill Iron Fighter. Catch a migrating monarch! Monarch butterflies start their migration all the way to Mexico in late August. Use a net and try to catch one of these marvels. Learn about a national research project and discover how monarchs are tagged. This program is for ages 6 and older and has a cost of $5.

The Scott County Board today approved a four-year intergovernmental agreement with the Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Community in which the tribe will make annual contributions of $280,000 per year to Scott County.
The funds will be allocated towards road maintenance, county administration, Sheriff’s Office and County Attorney’s Office.
The state’s annual summary of traffic crashes, Minnesota Motor Vehicle Crash Facts 2007, reports 510 people were killed on state roads in 2007, up from 494 in 2006.
Contributing to the 3.5 percent death increase was the 35W bridge collapse — 12 of the 13 bridge fatalities were classified as traffic deaths.
Well I apparently wasn't drinking enough chai or coffee because my favorite spot when I stop (about once every two weeks or so) was closed when I pulled into the drive-thru this morning. When they didn't respond immediately, as they usually do, I pulled around to the front of the shop -- which looked closed -- and found a sign on the front door. As of Friday, Aug. 22, Dunn Bros. is done. "Thanks for your patronage" it said.
Gilbert E. Lebens, 79, of Shakopee, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008 at St. Gertrude’s Health Center, Shakopee.
