Canterbury ends season with 8.6% decline in average on-track handle

Canterbury Park’s 67-day race meet, which began on May 3 and concluded Monday, recorded a slight decrease in attendance compared to last year’s record season and a drop in daily average on-track handle.

Average daily attendance of 5,388 represented a decrease of 1.6 percent compared to 5,476 for the 2007 race meet. Average daily on-track handle was $206,688, a decline of 8.59 percent compared to last year.  These decreases echoed slumping results across the racing and entertainment industry as consumers continue to face rising costs and a weak economy.

A crowd of 6,105 turned out to say goodbye to live racing for 2008 as Canterbury Park’s 67-day meet came to a close. The race fans were treated to a 10-race program including three stake races at the Shakopee oval.



Family safe, home destroyed

A Shakopee family is homeless tonight after a fire destroyed their new home at 853 Danube Ave.

Relatives of the residents, who were at the house during the fire, were able to escape with their small children unharmed

Firefighters from both Shakopee and Savage responded to the 911 call, which came in at 11:22 p.m.



State Amateur Baseball Tournament championships today

The Class B and C state amateur baseball tournaments will wrap up a spectacular final weekend of play with championship games Monday at Chaska and Shakopee.

The Class B final took focus as Maple Lake downed St. Michael 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday at Shakopee.

Cody Decker brought the winning run home with a bases-loaded single.

St. Michael led early, with Tyler Carlson and Bobby Kneefe each cracking RBI doubles in the third inning.

Our Hunted Weekend….Day 2

After a very tasty breakfast, everyone gathered in the back yard relaxing, having our coffee and discussing their experiences at the Holt house. The spirits seem to like Mary and had only showed themselves once to her. However, will have a verity of friends and family who will visit and spend the night over. They are the ones who seem to have the unusual experiences. It will be from strange noises to seeing dark misty shapes to smelling breakfast cooking in the middle of the night.
