For the second year in a row, Shakopee is hosting a town celebration in addition to Derby Days — and what a party it will be.

The city celebrated its 150th anniversary with a big party last summer. The Shakopee Fire Department will now hold a three-day extravaganza to celebrate its 1883 founding during the last weekend in September.



Hauger wins another title

Shakopee eighth-grader Maria Hauger won the Eagle Invitational cross country meet on Saturday.

Hauger ran a 15:04.7 to lead the Sabers to a third place finish.

The No. 2 team in the state defeated the No. 1 team to win the Eagle Invitational Volleyball Tournament on Saturday night in Apple Valley.

Shakopee, ranked No. 2, defended its title by defeating Chaska, 25-14, 25-15.

The win means Shakopee, the defending Class 3A state champions, will most likely move up to No. 1 in next week's rankings.

Ashley Wittman led the attack with 17 kills. She also finished with 11 digs. Mollie Geske added 10 digs and Mariah Monnens had seven.
