Youths ages 12 to 16 years who live or attend school in Scott County are invited to go catfishing with a cop on the Minnesota River.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is holding its ninth annual Youth Catfishing Tournament on Monday, Aug. 3. The event will start at 7 a.m. and end with an awards ceremony at approximately 4 p.m.
Air Force Airman Michael P. Valiant recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Valiant, a 2008 graduate of Shakopee High School, is the son of Daniel and Janet Valiant of Shakopee.
Cary Peterson, 58, of Prior Lake, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Highland Chateua Nursing Home in St. Paul.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake, with a visitation two hours prior to the service.

Chaska police are looking for a 28-year-old man wanted for second-degree assault and terroristic threats.
Police say that on Monday Nery Adalberto Amaya attacked his ex-girlfriend with a knife before turning the weapon on himself and cutting his chest. Amaya then fled the scene, according to police.
Police describe Amaya as a 5-foot-8, 160-pound Hispanic man with brown eyes and black hair. He may be driving a dark-colored 2001 Honda Accord with Minnesota license SMB-663. He may also have severe injuries that require immediate medical attention.
Scott County will be holding a residential pesticide collection at the Scott County Household Hazardous Waste Facility on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Sam and Hayley (Anderson) Disher of Prior Lake announce the birth of their daughter, Stella Lee, who was born at 10:37 a.m. April 20, 2009, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
Stella weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19¾ inches long. She has blue eyes and brown hair.
Grandparents are Burt and Pat Disher of Owatonna, Minn., and Mark and Annie Anderson of Shakopee.
Great-grandparents are Al and Babe Unze of Shakopee and Lowell and Joan Anderson of Savage.
