Did you go out to any of the restaurants in Scott County Monday just to enjoy the new smoke-free environment that was imposed with the law that took effect Oct. 1? Was there a noticeable difference?
I go out to eat not only because I'm hungry, but because it's a social activity. Having a smoke-free environment to socialize enhances the experience, in my opinion.
I don't smoke, but I use too. I don't think it is fair the government is requiring this of all business's. I understand restaurants (most we ALREADY smoke free anyway) but bar owner are losing business.
Where are all the non-smokers? They were supposed to be coming out in droves for the smoke free enviroment. It's been just over a month of the ban and local bar owners are already hurting by the loss of business.
Interesting. I stopped going to Turtle's a few years ago because the smoke was so bad - even in the non-smoking area.
Since the smoking ban, I've been there three times. It's been very busy every time. It's great to go out to dinner and hot have to come home and take a shower because your hair smells from smoke!
While I have very mixed feelings regarding the law itself - hard to stomach laws that have government telling businesses how to conduct themselves with regards to otherwise LEGAL activities - I love working in and more importantly going out to enjoy myself(eating, socializing, watching a game, whatever) in a smoke free environment!
My wife and I go out several times a week to have dinner, "do" happy hour or just grab a lovely thirst-quenching beverage after a run at the dog park with Quincy and his little sister, Roxxi.
Since October 1st, we now go out more, stay longer...spend more money closer to home here in Scott County than driving up to Hennepin or Ramsey Counties. While we don't like our closer to the city spots less, we definitely enjoy our now smoke free options here in Scott County much more and try to support these establishments by spending our time and money closer to home!
Thanks for letting this bartender share his point of view!
The government should mind their own business. If a business owner wants a smoke free bar or restaurant, let him open a smoke free business. If a business owner wants to allow smoking in his bar or restaurant, let him allow it. Tobacco is a legal product. If people don't want to work in a smoking bar, they can find employment elsewhere. Quite a fascist society we are becoming in this Country.
Well I haven't got the chance to go there but I sure appreciate the initiative. Even though I am a smoker I am not proud of it and I am struggling to give up. It's actually even harder than I expected, so if you guys have the chance, don't start smoking. Narconon Vista Bay
