Our Hunted Weekend….Day 2

After a very tasty breakfast, everyone gathered in the back yard relaxing, having our coffee and discussing their experiences at the Holt house. The spirits seem to like Mary and had only showed themselves once to her. However, will have a verity of friends and family who will visit and spend the night over. They are the ones who seem to have the unusual experiences. It will be from strange noises to seeing dark misty shapes to smelling breakfast cooking in the middle of the night.

I had posted the evps I got at the Holt house. It would seem to me that the spirits are very protective of the house. They don’t seem to like strangers. I found the atmosphere in the house warm and cozy. Each of the bedrooms upstairs is elegantly decorated. However I have to admit that in the one bedroom I felt as though I was intruding. It was the bedroom where I had picked up the 2 evps. I wondered about the tap I felt on my foot. Could it be they did not approve of me being barefooted? And what of the light I saw in the bedroom just before. I had a feeling that a lady was there even though we clearly picked up a man’s voice. What is interesting about the evps, is that you can tell they were all from the same man.

If anyone cares to visit the Holt house, Sept 14 will be the day to do it. To help Granite Falls Library raise some much needed funds 3 Granite Falls historical homes will be opening their doors to visitors. Tickets can be purchases at the library. 155 7th Ave Ph# for more information is 320-564-3738. Mary Gillespie will welcome other people interested in ghosts. She will be giving a tour of this historical location and for those interested she will be happy to talk about the spirits that dwell within it’s walls.

On this half of our weekend, Kathy accompanied me. Our plan was to go to the Swennson Farm, but before we went there we stopped by Mary’s daughter's house. Her daughter, Sarina, rescued one of Granite Falls’s oldest homes, The Weaver house. She had to have it moved because where it sat was a flood zone. It was built in 1878 and is a fine example of Italianiate Victorian architecture. It is listed on the national historic register.

I have to say I fell in love with the house when I first saw it. I would love to live in a house like this one. Mary offered us a tour of the house and of course, being ghost hunters, we couldn’t resist bringing our cameras and tape recorders. Sarina is planning to restore the house to it’s former glory, but from the look inside, it will take some time to get everything right. She is all excited about it though and has begun the hard work.

As I toured the home, I loved it. I liked the roominess of the downstairs. As I opened the door going to the upstairs I stopped in my tracks. I felt someone standing on the stairway preventing me from going upstairs. I tried to start up the stairs and I felt “don’t go up here or I will push you down the stairs” As I stood there, Kathy came up to me and asked if I was going upstairs. I told her no that someone was on the stairs. Kathy didn’t feel it and she proceeded up the stairs. However, when she did proceed up the stairs, she felt a spirit moving from room to room away from the people who were there. Kathy said she heard a disembodied voice by her ear as she stood in the hallway.

On the tape recorder we did pick up a child’s voice. No children were with us.

and this one that was very close to the mic,

The last one sounds as though the child had lost a tooth, you can hear a slight lisp and whistle

From there we went to the Swensson Farm. They are not interested in ghost hunters, and do not encourage then to come. There have been many stories about this place. Some quite hair rising. I wasn’t sure what I expected when I went there. The farm is isolated and I can see that a family needed to stay together to keep it running. Mr Swensson made the farm quite self-sufficient. They grew their own food, caned; there is even a spinning wheel and a loom. It seemed that many of the children died young and they are buried near the road by the property. It was quite evident that they all worked very hard through their lives. While touring the house I separated myself from the group in hopes that I could pick up something an evp, a feeling or hopefully a photo. I did get a creepy feeling in the basement. In that section, they had horses bridles and equipment. It was next to the canning room. For some strange reason I felt animals were butchered there. No evidence of that could be seen. Mr. Swensson and his daughter built the 22-room house in 1901. It still contains the belongings from its former owner. The house is a very interesting time capsule, as very little has changed since the death of Mr. Swensson. It makes you appreciate all the hard work the pioneers of yesterday had to endure. I was disappointed not to have captured any evps in the house. I did expect a man with such a strong personality as Mr. Swensson had would have held onto his house more. Perhaps when there are visitors in the house he off somewhere else until they leave and he can have his house to himself once again.

I did capture on photo that I cannot explain. At first glance it looks as though it’s a reflection coming from somewhere. But when I zoom in on it I can see that it is off the ground and it looks like it is glowing. I cannot say what this is for sure. I posted the photo for you to see.

All in all, I have to say we had quite an adventurous weekend. I am looking forward to more adventures in the future.
