Former Minnesota Wild coach Jacques Lemaire is returning to a place where he's known success.
Lemaire was hired today as the new coach of the New Jersey Devils, a team he coached to a NHL Stanley Cup in 1995.
Lemaire never said he was completely done with coaching, but some fans had the idea he would retire to his Flordia home where he could finally relax after years of hard-nosed coaching. I thought he'd take at least a year off before getting back into the game but apparently not.
Interesting to note, former Wild center Brian Rolston now plays for the Devils. Star Tribune beat reporter and Wild expert Michael Russo joked it won't be long until Martin Skoula follows. Ah, Skoula, I will miss you, the hardworking, really not-so-talented defenseman who always seems to make a mistake at the wrong time but still had Lemaire's absolute devotion. You were interesting to watch, I'll say that at least.
As for some of the more heated comments I've read, I wouldn't call Lemaire a traitor. I think it was simply time for him to go here. The Wild have been wallowing in the same state for quite some time. Change is good, I hope. And I wish Lemaire all the best in New Jersey. He is a great coach.
One thing I will definitely miss is Lemaire's post-game comments. He is by far the most enjoyable coach to listen to after a win or a loss, always telling it like it is, blunt. I can only hope Richards will be half as entertaining.
