I would love it if they would install a sound barrier south of 169 - between hwy 18 and canterbury road. We live in the new development by the lowe's hardware store, and on some days the road noise from 169 can be pretty darn loud.

Speaking of the area by lowe's, does anyone know what the new building next door to lowe's is going to be?

Unfortunately, anything is a "while" when you're dealing with the government. I haven't heard anything on this at the city level, but I'll check to find out what they know.

I have heard from "inside sources" (haha!) that there is a proposition for a sound wall to stretch along 169 between canterbury road and cub foods and possibly longer on both sides. it will be a while however.

It seems like some of the newest townhomes being built on the north side of 169 east of the now-closed Rainbow stretch out nearly overlooking the highway. How noisy will these homes be compared to something a few blocks away near the junior high?

Highway noise has diminsihed everyone's quality of life. Our house is east of the junior high and the noise just eats away at you when we try to enjoy our back yard. When the wind blows from the south, all the sound travels our way. If the air temperature is cool regardless of wind direction, the sound seems to travel exceptionally well. If the wind is out of the north, the sound is less of an irritant. However, that pretty much means it's winter and the windows are closed anyway!

I hope the rumor is true, but I would like the higher wall extended west from Canterbury Road to Marschall Rd. I live north of that stretch of 169 and our neighborhood used to be very quiet before the new 169 was built. Now it is difficult at times to greet neighbors across the street or next door because of all the highway noise.
