If I recall correctly, the technician was talking with the dispatcher who asked his availability for another call and he said "I'm being held hostage here" in a flip way of saying the job was taking him way longer than he'd thought. The dispatcher then called 911. One of those silly misunderstandings.

I would be curious to find out why DirecTV thought their employees were being held hostage. Can a summary of the incident be published? You can bet in the future, if a DirecTV employee is actually held hostage at a customers residence, the company will be very hesitant to call the police for fear of being sued.

The couple who alleged Savage police acted inappropriately when responding to a 911 call involving a “hostage situation” in 2006 has dropped its federal lawsuit against the city and others.

The lawsuit brought by Julie and Steven Pyle of Savage related to an incident in which a DirecTV dispatcher mistakenly believed the company’s workers were being held hostage by gunpoint at the couple’s home on 154th Place. Upon responding to the 911 call, police determined no improper activity was occurring and that the call from DirecTV was wrong.
