Great column

Great column billboardbandit. 1980s music and a disco ball always reminds me of roller skating. We lived in the boonies, so about twice a year a bus would load up all the kids and take them to the nearest rink. Wonder what types of music they play there now . . .

I don't remember ever even attempting to skate backward. Course I could barely manage the task of skating forward without gripping the wall as I skated on the outskirts of the rink.

Air Supply - "All Out of Love." I'm a sap ... a sentimental sap. Takes me right back to 1980 and a sweet, sad summer ... but I always turn it up and sing a long.

Alright - here's mine. "Careless Whisper" by George Michael. My first girlfriend gave me the 45 single when we broke up in Jr. High and every once in a while I'll throw it on the turntable to listen to it - and sadly I listen to it more to hear the song than for the memories of that whirlwind Jr. High romance!!

Cat Stevens would have to be mine.Growing up I had alot of friends who were in to heavy metal including me,Now! this is not something you want to tell your hardcore heavy metal friends because you would be totally laughed out of the metal club, only later on did I find out that they also had there "guilty pleasure" songs also.I also believe Itunes is A blessing and A curse because now I can find every Cat stevens song known to man.

Alright. Hanson. I have the "Mmm-Bop" single stashed in my CD collection at home. It was and still is the definition of pure teen pop bliss. And I am hanging my head in shame for admitting to owning that CD.

Either of Motley Crue's

Either of Motley Crue's first two albums, "Too Fast For Love" or "Shout at the Devil," are guilty pleasures. Though "Too Fat for Love" or "Shout at the Children" would now be more appropriate titles for my age, I still love to crank those records every now and then, lock myself in my bedroom and pretend I'm mad at my parents. Problem is, the last time I tried to head bang along, my neck was stiff for three days.

My heart's on fire Elvira... The Oak Ridge Boys had me at their first "om papa mow mow". Who doesn't love to sing along with this old gem? (btw, that was a rhetorical question)

I confess ... i have a copy of Garth Brooks's "Ropin' the Wind" lurking in my forgotten cd holder. i love to the belt out the lyrics to "Friends in Low Places" at the top of my lungs. It reminds me of my drunk & bitter college-aged self.

Giddy Up Oom Poppa Omm

Giddy Up Oom Poppa Omm Poppa...

The Oaks are classic -- saw them a couple times in the '80s and still love to hear them.

ABBA is one CD that my husband wishes I'd lose and I love to sing along with Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr.

Another favorite is Foster Brown, a good friend who's a naturalist/folk singer whose children's music got stuck in my head nearly 18 years ago and I still sing these songs -- with or without the cassette (my new car doesn't have a player but I can pop it into the boombox at home when I'm craving some "Spiders & Snakes"). Check him out at www.fosterbrown.net.

TESLA is my latest download.

TESLA is my latest download. "Little Suzi" and "Gettin' Better" have me peelin' out of the parking lot after work like I did back in high school. I guess music from the LAST CENTURY is my guilty pleasure. I hate to admit music 20 years old still gets me fired up. I am discovering their Mechanical Resonance and Five Man Accoustical Jam releases still put a skip in my step. Tesla is playing tonight at the Myth in Maplewood. Much to my chagrin, I will not be attending. It's not often that I slither out of the Minnesota River Valley, and tonight is no exception. I guess I will just stay home & crank my computer speakers to 11 listening to "Modern Day Cowboy". rock on, tesla.

"Losing love is like a window to your heart...Everybody sees your blown apart...Everybody feels the wind blow."

"It's a turn-around jump shot...It's everybody jump start...It's, every generation throws a hero up the pop charts...Medicine is magical and magical is art, think of
the boy in the bubble and the baby with the baboon heart..."

Lucinda Williams has a

Lucinda Williams has a talent for songwriting as a whole -- creating music and a delivery that more than complement her lines, they elevate them. Here's a section from one of my favorites, but you need to hear it for maximum effect:

"Some kind of savior singing the blues
A derelict in your duct tape shoes
Your orphan clothes and your long dark hair
Looking like you didn't care ... drunken angel

Blood spilled out from the hole in your heart
Over the strings of your guitar
The worn down places in the wood
That once made you feel so good ...
Drunken angel -- you're on the other side"

Gone savage
for teenagers with
automatic weapons and
boundless love
gone savage for
teenagers who are
aesthetically pleasing
in other words
fly
Los Angeles beckons
the teenagers
to come to her
on buses;
Los Angeles loves
love
