George W. Miller

George Miller, 75, of Apache Junction, Ariz. and formerly of Shakopee, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 at his residence in Arizona.George MillerGeorge Miller

Born in Wellington, Kan., on Dec. 8, 1932, he was the son of Robert W. Miller and Dorothy Mitchell. He married Evelyn “Pat” Mavis on Oct. 12, 1953 in Raton, N.M. George served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 4046 in Shakopee. He was an avid gardener. Prior to retirement he was employed at Rosemount Aerospace Industries as a systems analyst.

He is survived by children, Randy and wife Marge of Shakopee, Joe of St. Cloud, and Michael Halloran; granddaughter, Michelle; brother, Bob and wife Joan of Kansas; sister, Dorothy Dunham and husband Paul of Arizona; daughter-in-law, Cathy Miller of Wadena; special friend, Mary Schabarum of Arizona.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Pat; son, Jerry; sisters, Hazel and Winifred.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 29, from 10-11 a.m. at the McNearney Funeral Home, Shakopee, followed by a Memorial Service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Craig Johnson officiating. Interment at Valley Cemetery in Shakopee. Military rites will be provided by the Shakopee Veteran’s Memorial Unit.

Glenn Thomas Tuma

Glenn “Jesse” Tuma, 60, of Jordan, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 23, 2008 at his home.

Jesse was born May 8, 1947 in Faribault, Minn. to Thomas and Helen (Fischer) Tuma. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Deborah Leigh Tuma. Jesse worked for Fab Con for 36 years. He was a member of Laborers International Union of North America Local 563.

Loved and forever missed by children, Charity (John) Schneider of Jordan, Troy Tuma of Waterville; granddaughter, Brittany Hull; parents, Thomas and Helen Tuma of Northfield; siblings, Cheryl (Benet) Freund of Faribault, Monica (Michael) Brown of Wayzata, Lyn (Jim) Fox of Minnetrista, Darrell (Marilyn) Tuma of Moyie Springs, Idaho, Tom (Melissa) Tuma of Lakeville, Michelle (Rich) Kasel of West Concord, Lori (David) Fjlsted of Lake Chapalla, Mexico, Robert (Lori) Tuma of Dundas, David Tuma of Northfield; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation is Thursday, March 27, from 4-8 p.m. at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Jordan.

Elaine E. Borchardt

Elaine Borchardt, 88, of Prior Lake, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2008 at her home.Elaine BorchardtElaine Borchardt

She was born Feb. 9, 1920 to parents Fred and Mary (Radanke) Will in Spring Lake Township. She married Melvin K. Borchardt on May 20, 1941 at the Fish Lake Immanuel Lutheran Church in Prior Lake.

Loved and forever missed by her children, Carol (George) Douglas of Colorado Springs, Colo., Wayne (Marcy) Borchardt of Prior Lake, Cheryl (Gerald) Zahn of Eden Prairie, Connie (Dan) Hviding of Apple Valley; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Reinhard (Helen) Will of Jordan and Wendell Will of Shakopee.

Preceded by her husband, Melvin; parents; sister, Erna (Wilmar) Gruetzmacher; sister-in-law, Ardis Will.

Visitation was Tuesday, March 25, from 4-8 p.m. at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake, and also one hour prior the service at church.

Funeral Service was Wednesday, March 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Prior Lake, with the Rev. John P. Vaughn presiding. Pallbearers were James Douglas, Brian Borchardt, Jeff Zahn, Michael Zahn, Brian Zahn, Jay Trocke, Eric Ruud, and Nick Olson. Interment at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Prior Lake.

Elaine was a cook for 30 years with the Prior Lake School District. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Quilters and Bible Class. Elaine was also a greeter at church.

Loretta M. Worm

Loretta Worm, 85, of New Prague, died Thursday, March 20, 2008.

Loretta was born Aug. 26, 1922 and was a lifelong resident of the New Prague area. She was the daughter of Fred J. and Louise (Ruehling) Bohnsack. Loretta was a graduate of New Prague High School. She married Anthony F. “Tony” Worm on May 12, 1943 in Lanesburgh, Minn. During World War II, Loretta worked for Chesterfield in Durham, N.C., making cigarettes. A homemaker, she was a member of the Scott County Extension Homemakers Club for over 50 years and also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband; daughter, Anita L. (Jerry) Benson of Gainsville, Ga.; sisters, Eleanor Wieland of New Prague, Helma Grassmann of Belle Plaine; many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Arthur Fred, Herb and Norbert F. Bohnsack.

Visitation was Tuesday, March 25, from 4-8 p.m. at Bruzek Funeral Home and at church, one hour prior to service on Wednesday. Legion Auxiliary service was 6:50 p.m. on Tuesday.

Funeral service was at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, New Prague, on Wednesday, March 26, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Steve Trewartha officiating. Pallbearers included Stan Worm, Pat O’Boyle, Dan Worm, David Worm, Leon Bohnsack, Milan Bohnsack, Bob Wieland and James Grassmann. Interment at Fort Snelling Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Bruzek Funeral Home, New Prague, provided arrangements. 952-758-4949.

LoVerna Sophie Schlueter

LoVerna Schlueter, 94, of Waconia, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at The Waconia Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.

Funeral Service was held on Saturday. March 22, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Township, Cologne, with the Rev. Eric Zacharias officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were her grandchildren.

LoVerna was born on March 21, 1913 in Lester Prairie, the daughter of Herman and Emma (Ide) Lempher. She was the second of three children. LoVerna was baptized on April 13, 1913 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie by the Rev. William Greve and confirmed March 28, 1926 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe by the Rev. E. Kolbe. On June 8, 1932 she was united in marriage to Eberhard W. Schlueter at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe by the Rev. E. Kolbe.

LoVerna was a loving wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. The marriage was blessed with two sons, Burnell Schlueter (Dec. 15, 1938) and Willard Schlueter (Jan. 9, 1943). The family spent many years farming in Han****** Township, rural Cologne, before retiring in 1965 to their home in Waconia. After moving to Waconia, LoVerna was employed at Tonka Toys in Mound and worked on the assembly line. After retiring from Tonka Toys she would baby sit for the neighbors’ children and helped her husband assemble and varnish over 100 cedar chests that they shared with their family members and sold to the community. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, and tending to many house plants. LoVerna made quilts, afghans, and doilies that she shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After the death of her husband Eberhard in 2000, and with failing health, she was determined to stay living in her Waconia home. In November of 2007 after an unfortunate fall, she became a resident of the Waconia Good Samaritan Center until her death.

LoVerna was preceded in death by her husband Eberhard; son, Willard Schlueter; son and daughter-in-law Burnell and Delores Schlueter; father and mother Herman and Emma Lempher; brother and sister-in-law Harold and Elnora Lempher; sister and brother-in-law Vidella and Erwin Matthews; father-in-law and mother-in-law Henry and Antonia Schlueter; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

LoVerna is survived by her loving family; grandchildren, Trule (Clayton) Mackenthun of Hamburg, Mark (Renee) Schlueter of Cologne, Darren (Julie) Schlueter of Shakopee, Layton (Michelle) Schlueter of Mayer; great- grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Mackenthun of Green Isle, Jared and Nicholas Mackenthun of Hamburg, Amanda, Mackenzie and Samantha Schlueter of Shakopee, Madison, McKenna and Morgan Schlueter of Mayer; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Mazie L. Carlton

Mazie Carlton, 78, of Shakopee and formerly of Richfield, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008.

Preceded in death by husband, Melvin; son, Roy. Survived by sons, Joseph (Susan) and Rex (Laurie); daughter-in-law, Mary; grandchildren, Elmer, Jennifer, Krystle, Karl, Diana, Luanna, Steven, Melinda, Bryan and Christopher.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, April 2, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 5634 Luther Road Southeast, Prior Lake. Private interment Dawn Valley Memorial Park. Memorials preferred to MN food shelves.

Mary Francis Brown

She was preceded in death by father, Lawrence M. Brown; mother, Caroline R. Schemmel; brother, Richard L. Brown of Appleton, Wis.

She is survived by brothers, Lawrence M. (Zona) Brown of Chaska; Kenneth J. (Helen) Brown of Glendale, Ariz., Douglas (Louise) E. Brown of Bernville, Pa.; sister-in-law, Mary Brown of Appleton, Wis.; many nephews and nieces, Felicia (Jim) Kelson, Steven (Anne) Brown, Michael (Margo) Brown, Carrie (Greg) Boeser, Kristine Brown, Audra Brown, George (Jennifer) Brown, Richard Brown.

She was born July 17, 1948 in Willmar, Minn. Mary was a devoted daughter, aunt and friend. She worked for 37 years at MTS Systems Corporation in Eden Prairie. Mary will be remembered for her sense of humor, great smile, and strong commitment to her Catholic faith.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 27, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Jordan, with Father Tim Yanta presiding. Pallbearers will be Steven Brown, Mike Brown, Gabriele Brown and Joseph Brown. Final resting place is St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery, Carver.

Joseph E. Shea

Joseph Shea, 73, of Prior Lake, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 22, 2008.Joseph SheaJoseph Shea

He was born April 27, 1934 to parents Joseph and Margaret (Donnelly) Shea. He married Ellen (Curran) Shea on Oct. 21, 1961 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Philadelphia, Pa. They were blessed with eight children. Joseph was passionate about farming and the land. You could find Joseph in his “shop” mingling with his friends and family. He served our country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Prior Lake V.F.W., New Market Sportsmen Club and St. Catherine’s Cemetery Board. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in the summer and winter.

Loved and forever missed by wife, Ellen; children, Kathleen (Phil) LaRoche of Faribault, Kelly (David) Weber of St. Cloud, Patrick (Shannon) Shea of Kenyon, Peggy (Noah Levie) Shea of Prior Lake, Maureen (John) Muelken of Prior Lake, Kevin (Mindy) Shea of Prior Lake, Michael (Felicia) Shea of Prior Lake, Brian (Valerie) Shea of Morristown; 20 grandchildren; sisters, Verna Engfer of Long Beach, Calif., Peggy Wermerskirchen of New Prague.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James and John.

Visitation is Wednesday, March 26, from 3-8 p.m. at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Prior Lake, and also one hour prior the Mass at church.

Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday, 11 a.m., at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, Prior Lake. Pallbearers are Steve Florian, Phil LaRoche, David Weber, Noah Levie, John Muelken, Paul LaRoche. Interment at St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery, Prior Lake.
