YahooCraig Olson of Shakopee will be remembered by the Prior Lake-Savage Area community in many ways: as a father, husband, principal, mentor, leader and, to many, a visionary for creating global perspective locally and fostering an emphasis for area adults to mentor youth.
Olson, who was diagnosed in 2006 with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease, died Sunday, May 25.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31 in the gold gym at Prior Lake High School, 7575 150th St., Savage. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the high school. Light refreshments will be served after the service. Those attending the services are encouraged to carpool to the high school, as a previously scheduled event will be taking place and parking will be limited.
The school district made grief counselors available for staff over the weekend and will continue to do so for staff and students on an as-needed basis.
Olson stepped down as Prior Lake High School principal in October 2006 after his diagnosis with the illness, which has no known cure or treatment.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Stuesser, their children, Bryn and Ian, and family and friends.
