As summer winds down, Three Rivers Parks District continues to offer programming to keep children busy and interested in the world around them. See what’s coming up:

In the south metro

+ “Kits & Cubs: Land of the Little in the Pond” takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 or Sept. 9 at Richardson Nature Center in Hyland Park Reserve, Bloomington. This is a drop-off program. We will investigate all things little in the pond, make a craft and end with a snack. Cost is $7 per person and the activity is for ages 4 and 5. Reservations are required; call (763) 559-6700 and reference activity 41291612 (Sept. 2) or 41291613 (Sept. 9).

In the west metro

+ “Farm Beginnings – Apples, Apples, Apples” is offered from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8 at Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista. Explore the orchard with the farmers, help pick apples and learn about growing apples. Make an apple treat and apple cider. The costis $6 per person and there is a maximum of two children per adult. This event is for ages 3 to 5. Reservations are required; call (763) 559-6700 and reference activity 43740300.

+ “Lowry Little Ones: Fruity Fall” is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8 at Lowry Nature Center in Carver Park Reserve, Victoria. Come explore fall fun with your preschooler as we make apple prints, learn to press real apple cider, go on a fruity hike, and enjoy a fresh fruit snack. We will be spending time outside, so be sure to dress appropriately for the weather. The cost is $5 per person and this activity is appropriate for ages 3 to 5 with an adult. Reservations are required; call (763) 559-6700 and reference activity 41130323.

+ “Kits and Cubs: Happy Habitats” is a drop-off program for 4- and 5-year-olds from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8 at Lowry Nature Center. Explore the things that animals need to live, put on an animal costume and pretend you are an animal in the Habitats play area. Make a craft and end with a snack. The cost is $7 per person. Reservations are required; call (763) 559-6700 and reference activity 41131600.

+ “Lil' Farmhands” meets from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 9 and 16 at Gale Woods Farm. Help the farmers harvest in the orchard and gardens, along with caring for the animals. Each session will focus on a different topic and include a farm craft and farm-fresh snack. This is a drop-off class that runs for two consecutive Tuesdays. Sign up for either class or for both. The cost is $6 per program per person and is for ages 4 and 5. Reservations are required; call (763) 559-6700 and reference activity 43741600 (for Sept. 9) or 437416001 (for Sept. 16).

In the north metro

+ Kits & Cubs: Crickets & Grasshoppers has three opportunities for kids to participate: 10 a.m. to noon (activity 41221602) or 1 to 3 p.m. (activity 412216P5) on Wednesday, Sept. 10 or 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 (activity 41221603IN) at Eastman Nature Center in Elm Creek Park Reserve, Dayton. Drop off your kids for a buggy day. Sweep the fields for crickets, grasshoppers and other six-legged friends. Sing silly songs and play buggy games. Create a bug and eat an insect snack. The cost is $7 per person and the activity is for ages 4 and 5. Reservations are required; call (763) 559-6700 and reference activity numbers listed above.
