How high could gas go?

Everyone is speculating about gas prices. How high (or low) do you think they'll be by the end of the year? Will they fall because people are driving less to conserve or will they climb due to the falling dollar and other factors?

The Savage Arts Council will sponsor two juried art competitions in June.

The events are made possible through grant assistance from The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC) and will include both an Adult Show and a Junior Art Competition.

The Junior Art Competition is designed to highlight local south-of-the-river students currently attending seventh through 12th grades in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage, Prior Lake-Savage and Shakopee school districts, as well as private and home school youth living in these communities. The goal of the competition is to highlight youth artists in a positive and unique event. There is no entry fee but there is a limit of one entry per artist.

Greg Preslicka, a professional fine artist, illustrator and owner of Preslicka Studio in Savage is the Junior Show judge.

The program schedule and prizes are:

May 23 – From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., drop off art work at Savage City Hall, 6000 McColl Drive in Savage.

June 7-July 26 – The Junior Art Show is open to public at Savage City Hall.

June 14 – At 11 a.m., the judge will present awards to grade winners in a public ceremony. He will give a general overview of the show and highlight the award winners works, then present them with their prizes. Winners from grades seven and eight will each receive $50 and winners from grades nine through 12 will receive a $100 prize.

To learn more about this event, students should contact their school’s art teacher or pick up a brochure at Savage City Hall, Savage Public Library or Savage Art Studios.

The Adult Show judge is Brian Stewart, a native Californian who has made Minnesota his adopted home for the last 30 years.
