The owner of Valleyfair said today the Shakopee amusement park will add a wave pool and expand its water park in 2009.
Sandusky, Ohio-based Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. said a 350,000-gallon pool, called Breakers Bay, will open. The amusement park plans to nearly double the size of its water park, which will be renamed Soak City, to about 7 acres. Guests will have access to private cabanas, a new bathhouse and new food and merchandise options.
The new pool will total about 34,000 square feet, about three-quarters the length of a football field without end zones.
Cedar Fair is a publicly traded partnership. The company owns and operates 11 amusement parks, six outdoor water parks, one indoor water park and five hotels. Its parks are located in Ohio, California, North Carolina, Virginia/District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Missouri, Michigan and Toronto, Ontario. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in Gilroy, Calif., under a management contract.
