Scott County law enforcement personnel arrested 54 impaired motorists during a statewide, end-of-summer DWI enforcement effort, Aug. 21 through Sept. 7.
Nearly 400 law enforcement agencies across the state participated in the effort conducted by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Participating locally were the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and police departments in Shakopee, Prior Lake, Savage, Jordan, Belle Plaine and New Prague.
In addition to DWI enforcement during the campaign, 67 seat belt citations were issued under Minnesota’s new primary seat belt law. Under this law police can stop motorists solely for seat belt violations, including unbelted passengers.
“Drinking and driving continues to be a serious issue in Scott County and in our communities,” said Shakopee police officer Nicki Marquardt.
