First Carver/Scott family bike ride is May 17
May 8, 2008 - 12:43pm — sfiecke
The public is invited to join Carver County Commissioner Randy Maluchnik and Scott County Commissioner Jerry Hennen on May 17 for the first Carver/Scott Family Bike Ride. The route will follow the Minnesota Valley State Trail between Shakopee and Chaska, and highlight the re-opening of the river trail bridge along Highway 41, once again connecting Carver and Scott Counties. This seven-mile paved trail winds its way around the scenic Minnesota River and features a glimpse at life shortly after Minnesota’s incorporation, with the historic remains of the Schroeder Brickyard and Shakopee Brewery. The ride will also highlight the importance of the Minnesota River to the local economy in the 1800s, and issues that endanger the health of the River today. The round-trip ride has starting points in both Shakopee and Chaska. Shakopee’s start will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park, 1801 East County Road 101. Chaska’s start will begin at 10 a.m. at the Chaska Athletic Park, 725 W. First St. Water breaks will be provided at both starting points and mid-way on the ride. The trail is relatively flat with a few hills, and is a 14-mile round trip. The ride is free.
