A green dragon and a little cowgirl were among five visitors of Prior Lake City Hall on Friday morning who got both treats and a trick after an elevator malfunctioned and left them trapped inside for about 25 minutes.

Firefighters responded to a call that two adults and three children were stuck in the elevator at City Hall, 4646 Dakota St., at 10:37 a.m. No one was injured.Firefighters work to get five people out of an elevator that malfunctioned at City Hall during a "Trick or Treat" event on Friday morning. The elevator malfunctioned and the door wouldn’t open on the second floor, said First Assistant Fire Chief Jim Larson Jr. Firefighters overrode the controls, brought the elevator to the basement level and got the people out safely.

Among those inside were Shakopee residents Eliza Wilson and her son Adam, 2, who was dressed as a dragon for the “Trick or Treat at City Hall” event. The others in the elevator at the time it malfunctioned were Amy Crockett and her children Kate, 3, who was dressed as a cowgirl, and her 6-month-old son Tyler, all of Prior Lake.

A large group of people got out of the elevator on the second floor, and a buzzer went off because the door was open so long, Crockett said. That’s when Adam ran into the elevator and the others had to follow so he wasn’t alone. The five people who were stuck in the elevator for about 25 minutes from left, Shakopee residents Eliza Wilson and her son Adam, and Kate, Tyler and Amy Crocket of Prior Lake. The five people who were stuck in

The door closed and Crockett pushed the button to go down, but nothing happened, she said. At that point they couldn’t open the door and the elevator wasn’t moving.

They then hit the call button inside the elevator and reported the incident to dispatch.

“It got hot, and when the alarm sounded it scared the kids a little, but other than that we’re fine,” Wilson said.
