A Shakopee man plans to make 100 jumps from an airplane to raise awareness and money for Parkinson's disease research, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Kevin Burkart on Wednesday plans to make 100 jumps from an airplane. Nine years ago his dad, Gary Burkart, 67, of Shell Lake, Wis., was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting more than a million Americans.

"I wanted to do something to help my dad, bring some attention and raise some funds," Burkart, 37, told the Pioneer Press.

Burkart has been skydiving for about seven years and has made about 700 jumps.

Burkart expects to begin about 12 hours of jumps about 6 a.m. Wednesday at Skydive Twin Cities, which flies from the Baldwin airport, about 40 miles east of the Twin Cities.
