A third person was charged today with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a Coon Rapids man last week during a gang-related fight.
Shakopee teen Jeison Egdiel Quiroz, whose older brother was charged two days ago, also now faces a felony charge of aiding in the murder of Lucio Lopez, Jr.
Jeison Quiroz was 17 at the time of Lopez's death and turns 18 today. Scott County is asking that he be tried as an adult. Quiroz is being held at a juvenile detention facility in Carver County. His name is public because he's charged with a felony.
Jorge Carranza, 20, of Shakopee, who witnesses say carried the knife used in the fatal stabbing, was charged on Monday with second-degree murder. Carranza was charged with causing the death, but without premeditation.
Also charged with second-degree murder was Jonathan Quiroz, 20, of
Shakopee. He is charged with aiding and abetting in the death while
committing or attempting to commit a felony offense. Quiroz also was
treated for stab wounds at HCMC following the fight.
All three defendants showed up at St. Francis Regional Medical Center with wounds and were later arrested. They are associated with the Latin Kings gang. The victim and his friend allegedly belonged to the Serrano 13 gang. The victim's friend, an 18-year-old from the north metro, was also injured and went to Regions Hospital.

Quiroz, Jonathan
Lopez died of multiple stab wounds, authorities said.
Police were called at about 9:55 p.m. June 9 to Hunters Ridge Apartments, 628 Gorman St., where they found Lopez face down in the courtyard near a swimming pool, unresponsive, according to court documents. Efforts to revive him failed.
According to court records, Jeison Quiroz told police the fight was gang-related.
Jonathan Quiroz allegedly had a conflict with Lopez several days before at the Shakopee Ballroom.
A friend of Lopez reported that as Lopez and three others walked near the apartment complex, Quiroz and Carranza ran toward them, with Carranza carrying a thick silver knife.
Lopez and a friend reportedly ran into the courtyard, and Carranza and Quiroz followed them. Shortly after, Lopez's friend ran out of the courtyard with blood on his upper left chest and told someone to call an ambulance.
Jonathan Quiroz told police that he, his brother and Carranza were on a hill near the apartment complex when they saw Lopez and his friends walking. Quiroz said one of them yelled something at his party. During the ensuing fight, Jonathan Quiroz said he watched Lopez go down and kicked him. That is when Quiroz himself got stabbed, he said.
Jeison Quiroz told police that he attempted to punch Lopez after Carranza stabbed Lopez. Carranza reportedly dropped the knife as the group ran back into the apartment building.
A woman who lives in the building told police she heard people yelling in the courtyard and saw Carranza throw an object as he and two others walked back into her apartment building. About five minutes later, she heard what sounded like a female screaming in the courtyard. When she went to the entryway of her building, she found a pool of blood and drops of blood leading down the staircase.
In a search of Carranza's apartment, police recovered a set of knives similar to the silver knife believed to have been used in the stabbing.
