The Scott County Historical Society invites postsecondary students to apply for two summer internship positions at the Stans Museum in Shakopee. The unpaid positions run for approximately 12 weeks with flexible hours.
The interns will assist in the creation and installation of exhibit displays and in collections care. The positions would be attractive to students interested in museum archival/artifact preservation, exhibit development or history in general. Interns will oversee a specific project based on their interests and the priorities of the museum.
The internship is a mixture of training and hands-on experience and introduces students to the day-to-day workings of a regional history museum, exhibit development and construction, and collections care. The position is considered ideal for students to apply their academic learning in a work setting, gain hands-on experience and explore history museum careers.
Interns must be undergraduate or graduate students with a background in history or museum work. Previous experience conducting research is a plus. Applicants should be enthusiastic, creative and willing to work on a variety of projects, with strong written and oral communication skills. They should have attention for detail and enjoy working with the public.
