Soldier to speak on Iraq War experiences
January 10, 2008 - 3:45pm — Pat Minelli
The Minnesota River Valley History Roundtable is hosting its first event of the New Year on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. at the Scott County Historical Society in Shakopee. Maj. Michael Murray, a Shakopee resident and member of the Minnesota National Guard, will present a program titled, “Chronicling the Iraq War: A Soldier’s Perspective.” Murray will discuss his unit’s role in the Iraq War and what it was like to experience firsthand what many of us read about in the newspaper everyday. This program is free and open to the public. The Minnesota River Valley History Roundtable is a consortium of local historical societies (from Carver, Nicollet, and Scott counties) that are working to bring together historians, volunteers, history buffs, veterans, and those with a general interest in history for monthly educational programs. The program will move from county to county in order to reach as many areas as possible, as well as encourage people to explore the Minnesota River Valley region outside their county. The Roundtable began it inaugural season in August with a live-fire event. The theme for the 2007-2008 season is military history. All programs are free and open to the public.
