In two tournaments, Shakopee played the same course and surprise — they played better in the second tournament. On Monday, the Sabers shot a 325 to finish third in Farmington Tournament at Fountain Valley Golf Course in Farmington. New Prague won the tournament with a 313 and Prior Lake was second with a 319. “A couple players played their best rounds of the year and others struggled,” head coach Scott Proshek said. Senior Matt Thelen started off strong as he went out and shot a 35. But he stumbled home with a 43 and finished with a team low 78. Freshman Augie Lawson played his best round of the year and finished with an 81. Matt Schmid shot an 80. Jack Pexa bounced back with an 86 while Davis Madren finished with an 88 and Ed Mielke shot an 89. That tournament followed Shakopee’s first trip to Fountain Valley on Saturday, as the Sabers matched up against Rosemount and Farmington. Shakopee shot a 344. Rosemount was first with a 341 and Farmington finished with a 361. Thelen once again was the low golfer for Shakopee as he shot an 82. Lawson was next with an 85 and Madren finished with an 86. Mielke was next with a 91 and Schmid and Dan Leffler both shot 92. Girls golf The Shakopee girls golf team hosted a meet on May 1 at Stonebrooke Golf Club and finished with a score of 450. That score put the Sabers in fourth place behind Red Wing, Hutchinson and Farmington. Red Wing won the tournament with a 353 score, followed by Hutchinson’s 383 and Farmington’s 400. Alex Schmid was the low golfer for the Sabers as she finished with a 95 (46-49) to finish in eighth place. She was followed by Bre TenEyck’s 116 (57-59), Amber Sinnen’s 119 (59-60), Megan Moore’s 120 (59-61), Lindsey Branwall’s 122 (60-62) and Sam Berens’ 126 (62-64).
