YahooA winter-weather advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. today, and a wind-chill advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. today until noon Wednesday in Scott County, according to the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen.
A strong arctic cold front moved into western Wisconsin early this morning. Northwest winds near 30 mph, with gusts to 40 mph, were common behind the front. Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph will be common across the region today.
Temperatures will slowly fall during the day and likely be near zero by mid-afternoon. Snow is expected to develop later this morning and last into the afternoon.
An inch of snow is possible in the Scott County area. Snow amounts of 1 to 3 inches are likely across eastern Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin. The snow will get whipped around by the wind causing blowing and drifting snow with significant visibility reductions possible.
Wind chills will reach 20 to 25 below zero in eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin by evening. Even colder wind chills will be found across the region tonight and Wednesday morning, with readings from 25 to 35 below expected. A wind chill advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken. If you must venture outdoors, make sure you wear a hat and gloves.
