The National Weather Service office in Chanhassen has issued a snow advisory for Scott County in effect from 6 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Thursday with 3 to 6 inches expected.

The advisory affects central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro area, and western Wisconsin.

For Scott County, a winter weather advisory remains in effect until midnight today, with a wind-chill warning in effect from midnight to noon Sunday, according to the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen.

Due to severe cold weather and dangerously low wind-chill factors predicted across the state, a number of outdoor events scheduled at Minnesota State Parks for Saturday and Sunday have been canceled, postponed or changed.

Some of these events have been rescheduled to another date. Cancellation and rescheduled event dates are on the Web site at www.mnstateparks.info.

Cold air will remain over the region today, however, with some communities not reaching an actual temperature of zero this afternoon.

Accumulating snow has remained over southeast Minnesota today, but bitter cold arctic air has continued to push across the area on gusty winds.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty is directing the Minnesota National Guard to open its armory in Owatonna for travelers who may be stranded because of today’s blizzard conditions in southeastern Minnesota. The Guard will coordinate with local relief agencies to provide emergency assistance for anyone unable to travel through the area.
