Latest pollHow high could gas go?Everyone is speculating about gas prices. How high (or low) do you think they'll be by the end of the year? Will they fall because people are driving less to conserve or will they climb due to the falling dollar and other factors? Poll |
R&R by night, paintball by day

My stomach is still full from yesterday's breakfast. I've only eaten two meals since then. My first time staying overnight at the Nicolin Mansion Bed & Breakfast was awesome. Better than expected, even. Terri and Kevin Knox are exceptional hosts, and the place -- if you've ever been to the historic house in Jordan, you know -- is a treasure. My wife and I slept in the Mertz Room. (All of the rooms are named after former owners of the mansion.) While Kevin was remodeling the room earlier, Terri told me that an art deco sign they found in the basement -- "Mertz Rooms," it says -- inspired the room's decor. It's fantastic. I highly recommend staying there. And I highly recommend the breakfast. Wow. Kevin wasn't kidding when he said the room comes with a "very large breakfast. Very large." Dinner the night before was at Clancy's, always a worthwhile stop if you're in Jordan or just passing through. People I talk to who are from Mankato and St. Paul often know of Clancy's pizza and "hot chips" (which you've got to try). Also this weekend, I headed to Action Packed Paintball Games in St. Lawrence Township for a little less R&R. My buddy's girlfriend hit me in the small of my back twice from about 20 feet away. I guess she didn't know I was already out! I have welts. But Action Packed Paintball is a great place to play. I should know, since I've been there three times in the last month or so. They treat us well, have professional referees, and let us hang out in a fine masonry building with cleaner-than-a-paintball-business-should-provide restrooms or under a large tree on lawnchairs facing the speedball course. Love it!
