Learn history in the cemetery

By Ruth Anne Maddox
Created 05/06/2008 - 3:40pm

A walking tour of Shakopee’s Catholic Cemetery is planned for noon Thursday, May 29. Participants should meet at the cemetery, located between Clay and Adams streets on West 10th Avenue (across the street from the Women’s Prison).

The program will be led by local genealogist Betty Dols, who weaves stories of German and Irish pioneers. Purchased in 1877, the cemetery was the second Catholic cemetery in Shakopee. While walking through the cemetery, learn about the Benedictine connection, a family murdered, how the first became last and the last became first, the intrepid widow, as well as other stories.

To register for this event, contact Shakopee Community Education at (952) 496-5029 or www.shakopee.k12.mn.us [1]. The cost is $7 per person.
