Track teams third in conference relays

A new school record was set by the Shakopee girls track and field team.

The record fell on Tuesday, April 29 at the Missota Conference Relays at Shakopee Junior High School.

The record that fell was the distance medley relay when the team ran it in 13 minutes 23.95 seconds. Maria Hauger ran the 1,200 meters in 3:55 followed by Lindsey Cornelius running the 400 in 67.1 seconds; Jessica Hoffman ran the 800 in 2:38 and Anna Neu ran the 1,600 meters in 5:41.

As a team, the Shakopee girls finished third with 163 points behind Prior Lake and New Prague.

The Sabers had one other first place finish as the high jump team of Abby Berens, Rachael Hentges and Missy Kohout combined to jump 14 feet, 8 inches. Berens jumped 5-2, Hentges jumped 5-0 and Kohout finished with a 4-6 jump.

Shakopee finished second in 4x1,600 meter relay, the 4x100 meter relay, the 4x800 meter relay, and the thrower’s 4x100 meter relay.

In the 4x1,600 meters, Winona Rachel, Alli Lynch, Kate Bendel and Ashley Carlson ran a 22:47.2.

Ashley Leadstrom, Sammi LEbens, Kristin Hennes and Abby Berens teamed up to run a 50.94 in the 4x100 relay.

Hauger, Gracie Vaughan, Hoffman and Neu finished second in the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:03.69.

The throwers Emily Furst, Rachel Carkhuff, Chrissy Olupo and Trisha Bauer ran a 60.47 in the thrower’s 4x100 meter relay.

The Sabers finished third in the 4x100 meter hurdle shuttle, the 4x300 meter hurdles and the short spring medley relay.

Fourth place finishes were turned by the 4x200 relay and 4x400 relay teams and the discus and pole vaulters.

Boys track

As for the boys team they finished third with 134 points behind Farmington’s 192 and New Prague’s 175.

The Sabers had two first place finishes as the sprint medley relay team ran a 3:40.49 to win that event and the throwers ran a 50.50 to win their 4x100 relay.

Shakopee had three third place finishes in the 4x100 high hurdles (1:09.47), the short sprint medley relay (1:37.93) and 4x200 relay (1:34.21).

Third place finishes came in the shot pot (126 feet 10.25 inches) and the discus (371-9.5).
