The Savage Arts Council will sponsor two juried art competitions in June.
The events are made possible through grant assistance from The Metropolitan Regional Arts Council (MRAC) and will include both an Adult Show and a Junior Art Competition.
The Junior Art Competition is designed to highlight local south-of-the-river students currently attending seventh through 12th grades in Burnsville-Eagan-Savage, Prior Lake-Savage and Shakopee school districts, as well as private and home school youth living in these communities. The goal of the competition is to highlight youth artists in a positive and unique event. There is no entry fee but there is a limit of one entry per artist.
Greg Preslicka, a professional fine artist, illustrator and owner of Preslicka Studio in Savage is the Junior Show judge.
The program schedule and prizes are:
May 23 – From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., drop off art work at Savage City Hall, 6000 McColl Drive in Savage.
June 7-July 26 – The Junior Art Show is open to public at Savage City Hall.
June 14 – At 11 a.m., the judge will present awards to grade winners in a public ceremony. He will give a general overview of the show and highlight the award winners works, then present them with their prizes. Winners from grades seven and eight will each receive $50 and winners from grades nine through 12 will receive a $100 prize.

The Adult Show judge is Brian Stewart, a native Californian who has made Minnesota his adopted home for the last 30 years. He currently is an instructor at The Atelier, Minneapolis and does multiple workshops for outdoor painting across the country each year. Entry fee is $15 for a single entry or $25 for two entries (limit two entries).

May 31 – From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., drop off art work at Savage Art Studios, 4735 W. 123rd St. in downtown Savage.
June 2-5 –Judging takes place.
June 11-16 –Pre-award show on display at Savage Art Studios
June 14 – At 4 p.m., the judge will present awards and give a talk about the show, his decision process and the award winning works. Free and open to the public.
June 21-July 26 – Art Competition Show will be on display at Savage Art Studios, Sterling Bank, Anchor Bank and other sponsor locations.
Competition categories and prizes are:
+ Two-dimensional visual arts for: Oil; water media (watercolor and acrylic); mixed media; pastels and drawing; and photography.
+ Three-dimensional visual arts and fine crafts: Sculpture (3-by-3-by-6-feet maximum) and pottery and glass.
First prize per category is $100 and second prize is $50. There also will be to honorable mentions per category. There will be one Best in Show award of $200 and a Marion W. Savage People’s Choice Award of $100.
