Two from Shakopee critically hurt in crash

ALBANY, Minn. — Two Shakopee residents were critically hurt about 2 p.m. Friday after their vehicle rolled Friday in Stearns County in the westbound lanes of Interstate Highway 94, according to the State Patrol.

The vehicle that rolled was a Chevy Trailblazer driven by Javier Avalos, 51, of Shakopee. He was airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital where he was in critical condition. His passenger, Isabel M. Avalos, 40, of Shakopee, was taken to Melrose Hospital and then airlifted to St. Cloud Hospital. She also was in critical condition. A second passenger, Javier W. Avalos, 21, of Shakopee, was taken to Melrose Hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

There were four vehicles involved in the incident. One vehicle lost a spare tire from its undercarriage, which caused a vehicle behind it to swerve and roll several times, the State Patrol reported. Two other vehicles received minor damage while avoiding the crash.A third vehicle was driven by David R. Schmoyer, 25, of Albertville. His passengers were Adrienne K. Schmoyer, 25, of Albertville and Noah Schmoyer, 1. None were injured.The fourth vehicle was driven by Warren D. Groskreutz, 39, of Owatonna. His passenger was Luann Johnson, 47, of Owatonna. Neither was injured.
