Sociabull, a 4-year-old Minnesota-bred quarter horse, won the $22,100 Cash Caravan Stakes on Sunday at Canterbury Park in Shakopee.
Sociabull broke sharply from the inside post and held off a challenge by Okey Dokey Irish to win by a nose, covering the 440 yards in 22.411 seconds. Sociabull is owned by Jim Olson of Andover and is trained by Jerry Livingston. Leading jockey Ry Eikleberry rode the winner, who returned $13.60, $5.00, $3.20. This was Sociabull’s fifth win of the 2008 Canterbury season.
“This was a tough race against some good Minnesota breds,” Livingston said. “Sociabull broke on top and out ran them today.”
Okey Dokey Irish, winner of the Minnesota Derby, paid $3.00 place and show. Finishing third was last year’s Cash Caravan winner Stone Cold Roller. He returned $3.60 to show.
A crowd of 12,678 wagered $323,056 on the 10-race program. An additional $243,151 was wagered on Canterbury’s races at simulcast sites.
Monday is the final day of Canterbury’s 67-day race meet. First post is 1:30 p.m.
