The Shakopee baseball team split a doubleheader with Red Wing on Wednesday at Tahpah Park.

The Sabers won the first game 4-2 behind a strong pitching performance by senior Chase Hentges. Hentges pitched seven innings giving up only one earned run and striking out 13.

In the nightcap, Red Win scored two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to top Shakopee 4-3.

Shakopee freshman pitcher Ashley Walker gave up no-hits in the Sabers 6--0 victory over Red Wing on Thursday afternoon.

Walker struck out eight in seven innings and only allowed three baserunners total. All three baserunners reached base by error.

Shakopee scored four runs in the first to give Walker all the support she would need.

The win improves the Sabers record to 10-5 and 7-3 in the Missota Conference.

A new school record was set by the Shakopee girls track and field team.

The record fell on Tuesday, April 29 at the Missota Conference Relays at Shakopee Junior High School.

A loss in the championship game of its own tournament didn’t stop the Shakopee softball team from defeating Hutchinson on Monday afternoon.

The Sabers lost 10-0 to Hopkins on Saturday in the championship game of the Shakopee Invitational. They bounced back from that defeat to beat Hutchinson 6-2.

 A two-game win streak was stopped Monday afternoon when Prior Lake scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Shakopee baseball team 6-1.

The Sabers had won two slugfests before meeting Prior Lake at Memorial Park in Prior Lake.

In two tournaments, Shakopee played the same course and surprise — they played better in the second tournament.

On Monday, the Sabers shot a 325 to finish third in Farmington Tournament at Fountain Valley Golf Course in Farmington. New Prague won the tournament with a 313 and Prior Lake was second with a 319.

When it plays in its conference, the Shakopee boys tennis team wins. When it plays a team from outside the Missota Conference, the Sabers have lost.

Shakopee senior Jessica Menden has been named a 2008 Athena Award winner for Shakopee High School. Menden has earned six varsity letters (five in volleyball, one in track) at SHS.

The Shakopee Sabers softball team will play Waconia today at 4:30 p.m. at Shakopee Junior High School.
