UPDATE: Crash fatality from Jordan; other driver from Shakopee

One person was killed in a two-vehicle head-on crash this afternoon on icy Highway 169 in Shakopee.

Michah R. Gurgel, 30, of Jordan, was killed, according to the State Patrol.


Chaska woman sentenced to 70 months for money-laundering

A Chaska woman was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in connection with a money-laundering scheme involving the theft of more than $2.5 million from the clients of her real-estate closing company.

Molly L. Heise, 50, was sentenced to 70 months in prison and three years supervised release in Minneapolis by U.S. District Court Judge John R. Tunheim.

A second defendant, Christine A. Hein, 38, Buffalo, was sentenced to two years' probation on July 14.


Two charged in reservation shooting

 Two Prior Lake men were charged in connection with a shooting in the 3100 block of Little Crow Drive on the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux reservation by the Scott County Attorney’s Office on Monday.

Former Jonathan bookkeeper charged with theft

CHASKA -- A former Jonathan Association employee has been charged with felony theft.

According to a press release from the Carver County Attorney's Office, Kimberly Sue Ferrari, 37, was previously employed as the association's bookkeeper.

"Ferrari is charged with using the Association’s credit card without authorization to make numerous purchases and cash advances for personal gain in an amount over $9,000," the release stated.


UPDATE: Woman dies after being struck by vehicle; man arrested

Updated at 8:35 p.m. 

A 23-year-old Savage woman died from her injuries after she was struck by a car driven by a friend Saturday morning in Shakopee, according to Shakopee police.


Shakopee man indicted in federal court on wire fraud, identity theft charges

A 51-year-old Shakopee man was indicted last week in federal court on 11 counts of wire fraud and 11 counts of aggravated identity theft in connection with a scheme to fraudulently obtain money from credit card equipment leasing companies and loan companies.

Jeffrey Scot Graham was charged Aug. 5 in Minneapolis. He was arrested earlier this week, and his indictment was unsealed following his initial appearance last Wednesday.


Hennes jailed for drinking, released

A Prior Lake man accused of hitting a Shakopee boy on his bike, fatally injuring him, and then leaving the scene was back in jail briefly Thursday for allegedly violating conditions of his release by drinking.


Burglars caught crowbar-handed at Shakopee store

By Shannon Fiecke, Staff Writer

Two thieves were caught in the act as police officers responded to a security alarm at Ace Hardware on Marschall Road on July 29.

Police are pretty happy about their prize..

“They came out the door and we were waiting for them, just like TV,” said Shakopee police Capt. Jeff Tate. “That doesn’t happen very often.”
