Canterbury Park to reopen Thursday

Canterbury Park will reopen Thursday after losing 12 days of racing. Live racing starts at 7 p.m. with free admission. The Card Casino will open at 10 a.m. Thursday The club will be hosting a $1,000 Freeroll tournament. The first 100 players will get in free. Simulcast racing starts at 11 a.m. Canterbury also plans to reschedule its popular ostrich and camel races, which had been canceled last Sunday.
Heat index could reach 120 degrees this afternoon

An excessive-heat warning for the Shakopee area continues today, with the heat index expected to reach 105 to 120 degrees this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen. The high temperature is expected to reach the middle to upper 90s, and combined with high humidity, will result in a heightened risk of heat-related stress and illness.
State Historical Society, museums to open Saturday if shutdown ends
The Minnesota Historical Society, its museums, historic sites and library will reopen to the public on Saturday following the state of Minnesota government shutdown. All programs scheduled beginning Saturday will resume as initially planned. Hours of operation and special programs are outlined at www.mnhs.org. This reopening schedule is contingent upon the passage of a budget bill by the legislature and signing by the governor.

County offers free well-water testing
Scott County, in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA), will hold a free nitrate water-testing clinic from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 30.
