Twin Cities gas prices drop 8.4 cents per gallon in past week

Average retail gasoline prices in Twin Cities have fallen 8.4 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.72 a gallon Sunday. That compares to the national average that has increased 3.0 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.67, according to gasoline price website TwinCitiesGasPrices.com. Gracing this world on June 22, 1928 in Minneapolis, Betty was the daughter of Andrew and Louise (Kramer) Nelson. UPDATE: Heat warning continues through Wednesday night
Due to a prolonged period of high heat and humidity, an excessive-heat warning remains in effect for the Shakopee area through 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen. Afternoon heat indexes will exceed 105 degrees for several hours each afternoon during the period, with evening low tempera-tures dropping only to the middle 70s to lower 80s, said the weather service.
Very heavy rain, thunderstorms possible today, tonight

Very heavy rains during thunderstorms are possible in the Shakopee area this afternoon and tonight, which has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flash-flood watch through Monday morning. Torrential rainfall of 2 inches or more an hour are possible, said the weather service.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers some tips on coping with extreme heat.
