How will the closure of the river crossings impact your life? Did your commute double this morning? Do you have difficulty making it to daycare in time to pick up your children? Is anyone staying with friends or family during the week on the other side of the river?

No Kristin, it’s not the spring break in Shakopee (we’re not the only ones that use 169, Jordan, Prior Lake, Bloomington, Savage, etc.) It’s the barriers and the signals at 494/169 that are helping the traffic. Give credit where credit is due. The traffic was easy with all the other crossings out. Please MN DOT/State of Minnesota; let these temporary changes in place until the CONSTRUCTION is over at 494/169. Traffic has been so great!!!
I had the same thought too, but then I realized there’s no shoulder with the re-configured lanes. This would cause significant delays with accidents or stalls, and poses a safety risk. Law enforcement officials already have a hard enough time trying to avoid being hit on the side of the road. Any collision could force a vehicle, or worse, a person, off the bridge into the river.
It is Shakopee’s spring break, so traffic is likely lighter because of that.
I wish they would also leave the additional lanes on 169 over the river. There hasn’t been any backups of traffic to speak of. For what it cost to repaint the lines, wouldn’t it be beneficial to leave them?
I wish they would leave the barriers at 494 until the construction is over in 2012. It’s amazing how the traffic (before the adjustments to 169) congestion problems were never blamed on the signals, better yet, how the state kept delaying the removal of the signals at 494 and 169. Why didn’t they do these measures with the previous floods? We sat in traffic in years previous for over an hour, with these measures we’re getting home in 20 minutes from Edina.
Highway 169 was surprising quiet for a Monday. I was shocked at how little traffic there was on the roadway. Going out the door, I expected the commute time to be double, but it took my usual time to get to work.
