There are no bullet holes left as proof that notorious gangster John Dillinger once inhabited Apartment 303 at the Lincoln Court Apartments in St. Paul.
Seventy-five years after his 12-day stint at the corner of Lexington Parkway and Lincoln Avenue, there is only the occasional stop, by local gangster tours, to serve as a reminder that the quiet building in the tree-lined neighborhood was once the site of an infamous shootout between Dillinger and the FBI.

Five people from Shakopee and Savage are among 18 charged today in federal court in connection with a Twin Cities indoor marijuana growing ring called “one of the largest drug operations of its kind in Minnesota” by Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek.
Boy band Select Three, which was featured in the Shakopee Valley News last December, has made it to the second round of Fox 9 Television’s 2009 Battle of the Bands competition.
Shakopee was among the metropolitan-area leaders in residential building permits issued in June, and is the regional leader in the first six months of the year, according to the Builders Association of the Twin Cities.
Russell Baze, the winningest jockey in North American thoroughbred racing history, is coming to Minnesota to ride in the 11th annual Claiming Crown, July 25 at Canterbury Park in Shakopee.
Baze will have mounts on three or four horses for trainer Lloyd Mason and owner Ed Denike.
On Feb. 1, 2008, Baze became the first rider in North America to win 10,000 races and through Wednesday had a career win total of 10,570. Both Baze and Mason are based in Northern California.
Students from the Emergency Medical Service program at Hennepin Technical College practiced triage skills and Shakopee firefighters worked to extricate victims from vehicles during a mock accident scene, involving three cars, on June 25, 2009.
Scott County motorists will face enhanced speed enforcement patrols throughout July.
Some local businesses will be closed Friday in honor of Independence Day, which is Saturday.
City of Shakopee and Scott County offices will be closed Friday, July 3 to observe the holiday. Shakopee Public Schools will also be closed.

When the property value for Ed Chapman’s home along the Minnesota River in rural Jordan kept rising by double digits, he only wanted an
explanation.
Chapman mailed a letter to St. Lawrence Township Assessor Leo Anderly to find out what was going on. No one had ever been out to inspect the place, and with fungus growing on the trees and his Cathedral-shaped house in need of recaulking, the assessment seemed out-of-whack.
