Hello Shelumiel,
I just now read your gentle response to my comments about Witnesses being
captives of a concept. Here is some of my reasoning for such a statement:
The upcoming January 15, 2008 Watchtower explains the Society’s interpretation of Matthew 24:45-47:
When Christ inspected the ‘faithful and discreet slave’ in 1918, he found
those anointed ones on earth to be faithful in providing spiritual ‘food at
the proper time.’ Hence, Jesus was pleased thereafter to appoint them over all his belongings.‘
And so the only way the Society can be God’s organization today is if they
received that appointment then in 1918 (or 1919).
The only way to know if they could have passed such a inspection and therefore received that appointment is to make the same insipection the Governing Body says Jesus made in 1918.
Did you make such an examination before you decided to become a Witness? I know that I didn’t. And I have never found one Witness who did.
It took former Governing Body Member Raymond Franz some 60 years of
association with the Society before he finally made the above examination. Once he did He concluded that…
It would be an insult to Christ Jesus to say that he selected this
organization on the basis of what it had been teaching as of 1919.
You would have to make the same inspection in order to understand why he
said this.
The book Captives of a Concept refers the reader to the Proclaimers of
God’s Kingdom book where it unintentionally shows why there is no
possible way the Society could have passed a food-at-the-proper-time
examination by Jesus Christ in 1918-1919.
The book helps the reader to know what to look for and where to find it in the “Proclaimers” book.

If you didn’t want people to comment on it, don’t post it then. When you make accusations about a group of people, expect some feedback. Mormons are some of the nicest people in the world. I agree with you about JW’s, they are getting close to cult status.
I think it’s friggin’ hilarious people are still pissing and moaning over all this! It’s been how long?
GET OVER IT!!!
So what? A couple of morons were trying to proselytize, picking on my mother and trashed our property. I feel sorry for them because it’s most likely these young men didn’t even realize their actions. Oh well, I still think Mormon and JWs faith is a fraud and serves no purpose in Christianity. I feel sorry for anyone involved in these cults.
Living on the west coast, I can tell you we are saturated with mormons and JW’s. The way you have described it, 2 guys on bikes are mormons, not JW’s. But why do you have to be a hater? Mormons are the nicest people you have ever met. JW’s are a little bit different. I dated a JW and she was a freak in bed. I have friends who have dated mormon girls and they say the same thing. So, look at it as an opportunity for more lady contacts. DON"T BE A HATER!!
Shelumiel,
This discussion was way dead from this past summer.
Look at the date of the original post…Don Cameron hasn’t said anything since July.
Everyone should practice Love for one another. But did you miss a point?
Where’s the outrage for his mother’s damaged property. Instead…honing in on “slandering” of Jehovah Witness or Mormoms.
The guy was upset and was sounding off, exercising his right to free speech. Where’s your forgiveness for his momentary lack of judgement? Turning the other cheek?
To quote some passages on the subject:
Luke 6:28-30 says “bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back.”
1 Peter 3:15-16 says "But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
Maybe you can get your tuition money back and use it on a logic course.
Those were Mormons. Period. If you had paid attention in class you would know that the young men are required to spend two years in missionary work in order to advance in the organization. Moreover you would know that they are limited to bicycles and that they proselytize in their shirt sleeves. JW’s wear suits of various (businesslike) designs and, except in the hottest of weather, do not remove their jackets. JW’s will nearly alway speak directly from the Bible and Mormons will seldom, if ever, have one in their possession. How could you take such a course and not have even this sketchy information about the two fastest growing religions in America?
You do not know WHO kicked the pots over … could have been a dog chasing a raccoon, fer cryin’ out loud. Nor do you know when that tract was placed.
All you know is that your Mom has a serious brain injury, that a tract was found in the door, that two young men on bicycles (get off the fixation - they were NOT JW’s!) had stopped by several times and that the pots were knocked over in your absence. want to go “Nate in the Temple” … go find a temple. The JW’s are some of the mildest people you will ever find … they did not vandalize your deck.
What you don’t know is if ANY two of these events are connected. Chill out on the anger. Go ask the Mormons not to call on you again and do the same with the next JW you see. You are in serious danger of letting your ill-defined and poorly targeted anger lead you straight to jail.
If you -really
Hello, DonCameron. How are you? Hope you’re fine. I don’t mean to act rude, but I just want to tell you something about Jehovah’s Witnesses. It’s true that we’ve been and are proclaiming the good news of the Paradise hope on earth for decades, infact, for centuries. If you’re a christian yourself or have the Bible with you, please look at Matthew 9:35. It says: “And Jesus set on a tour of all cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the good news of the kingdom and curing every sort of disease and every sort of infirmity.” We as Jesus’ followers strive to follow Jesus’ example. We do not teach according to our own desires but according to the Bible. Jesus himself said at John 7:16, “What I teach is not mine, but belongs to Him that sent me”.
Dear DonCameron, Jehovah’s Witnesse practice love for one another. - Matthew 22:39, 1 Peter 4:8 and 1 Peter 1:22. They do not allow cultural, racial or national barriers to hinder their intense love for one another. Instead they show their unhypocritical love by sharing the good news with everyone who WANTS to listen. So, DonCameron, please think again. Will such loving people vandalize people’s properties? Will they give people false hopes for the future? Please decide for yourself. I apologise if I wrote anything wrong or offended you in any way. Thank you for reading this comment.
Ok, I find it really humorous that all of the JW’s on this page are claiming that arguements are never started when they so rudely knock on our doors.
Humorous because I can name at least 4 occasions when I have been argued with when I was politely (at first) telling them to leave. One went as far as sticking his foot in the door so I could not close it. He’s lucky he still has a foot!!! I think they are some of the RUDEST people I have ever encountered. If I tell you to leave and get off my property, you leave. I don’t care what bull you are selling/preaching. I honestly cannot even believe it is legal for these people to intrude like they do.
If I see them coming I just close the blinds, and ignore them. I feel terrible for the poor woman who has had to deal with them numerous times. I would be outraged as her son too!!!
Rdouglas, here’s a tip - Take a course in critical thinking.
Sorry to hear about your mom - but you have no witnesses, no evidence, nothing to implicate the JW’s. Just a random brochure and someone who said they saw some mormons.
If your mom is truly in bad shape, you should consider a home.
And seriously, if you want to talk about scam religions, here’s a recommendation - let’s talk about the one that produced the inquisition, hid the bible from it’s members for centuries and has a rich history of deviant clergy - from popes to local priests.
Or we could talk about the one a king founded because he couldn’t get a divorce.
Or the ones that call themselves christian but are re-writing the bible to accept gay and lesbian priests and bishops.
Or the ones that encourage their members to strap on bombs and go into marketplaces and blow people up.
Theres an abundance of scam religions around, including many of the most “popular” ones. Do a little research and I’m sure you can be just as disgusted as I am by the scam religions.
I will repeat myself from above. Its a shame that alot of people believe the things written on the internet (or other areas), because somewhere someone will read and believe the things said by those without “accurate knowledge” about what which they speak.
So those who truly want, desire or are curious as to know what JW’s are about believe(or even Mormons) please go see for yourself with your own two eyes and not trust the words of “e-intellectuals”
I’m sorry if this sounds harsh:
Both JWs and Mormons employ the same mind control over their victims, I’ve seen it first hand.
Both require victims to obey leaders unquestionably.
Both require victims to accept work assignments (door to door selling, etc).
Both will not allow a member to leave without some kangeroo tribunal held to ‘convict’ the ‘apostate’.
Once a victim joins he can’t leave easily because they have their family brainwashed too.
People that do leave are ‘shunned’ - they often lose their spouses, kids, friends, uncles and aunts and cousins etc.
Both suffer under heavy handed rules: For Mormons; No tea, no coffee, no coca cola, no excessive laughing (I’m not making this up), they’re held to dress codes and are expected to toe the line or face disciplinary action.
For JWs it’s no better; No birthdays, no Christmas, no Flag Day, no Labor Day, no singing the National Anthem, no saluting the flag, and worse than all, they are forbidden from blood transfusions, misinterpreting an Old Testament passage about eating blood.
You get the idea.
Best just to stay far far away.
Slamming Mormons? Both groups are as bad.
Both are brainwashed. Unable to think for themselves, they are victims, under authority they cannot vote for or question without threat of expulsion.
ndouglas, come here. BIG HUG. Nobody is saying you do not have the right to protect your family, or to feel incensed when your front garden is trashed. We’re just saying you should use a little common sense when you vent your anger. I don’t like Jehovah’s witnesses, but TRUST ME, they DO NOT do such things. Perhaps other fundamentalist Christian groups do, but most definitely not the Witnesses. I used to be a JW and THANKFULLY I left, but take my word for it, it wasn’t them. Should I say it again?
I sense that you still actually think they did it, SIMPLY because their flyer was in the door. Did you even consider the Postman analogy?
Here’s my theory. A Witness did something to you a while back which really got up your shirt, OR you were a witness yourself and they separated your family by disfellowshipping you or another family member. You’re still angry and you can’t let go at that anger. You saw the mess, and the flyer, and saw RED.
JWs don’t do the ministry on bikes, they don’t introduce themselves as “elder and elder”, and they don’t trash lawns. They do, however, annoying leave leaflets in every crack, hollow and mailbox they can find. Therefore is is totally UNSURPRISING that you encountered a flyer. Hell, it even happened to me once! It even happened on a halloween night where kids had egged my front door. Did I conclude it was the witnesses? NO. I’m not stupid. Neither are you. I hope.
IF you have a moment, check out this link of a lady talking about protecting yourself and family because criminals have been reported tazering and robbing residents at their door under the pretense of proselytizing.
Title: Watch out for tazer toting bible thumpers
Link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=3nQVtZy7HTw
Dude, for someone who supposedly is well educated, it’s very surprising that you cannot see that the flyer could have been put there at a different time, by different people. Yes, the Witnesses are damned annoying, but trashing front gardens is definitely NOT their style. Their sins lie elsewhere. Also, considering you are educated in religious matters of all things, it’s amusing that you cannot detect the Mormons when you encounter them. Wake up, and re-direct your anger.
I was stunnned to discover that, in fact, your mother can speak up for herself, so you’d given an entirely wrong impression of yourself. You would have received GREAT SYMPATHY had you gotten the perpetrators correct, but you look rather daft know. It seems to me that you are the one that is mentally challenged. As a previous commenter noted, would you have blamed the postman if you’d found a newspaper? With you, it’s sure possible. Next time a dude calls himself “elder”, THINK! Get the neurons working, and don’t jump to conclusions. I repeat that I am NOT a Witness supporter; in fact quite the opposite. I’m a thinker. Take a leaf from my book fella…
Username, thank you for the apology. I will contact the overseer the next time I receive unsolicited information.
Can this be put to rest now?
P.S. to Username — quoting you "And as far as JW’s continuing to work your home after you’ve asked them to not return. IF that is happening its unfortunate. The organization and the Service Overseer’s are usually good about making sure that those things don’t happen. Usually if JW’s work a house that’s supposed to be a “do not return” its an oversight on the duo working the house. Or Overseers are checking to see if circumstances have changed at that home. (and that’s no Amish fairytale)."
They do come and return after repeated calls to stop.
Have you ever lived around Amish, I have (along with Brethern, Mennonites, Dunkards). So what is with the comment?
Well like i said if they do continue to return despite your expressed desire that they cease and desist, then its unfortunate and it SHOULDN’T be happening so i would advise you to speak with the presiding overseer and or service overseer at the congregation assigned to your street.
As far as the “Amish Fairytale” comment. First of all sorry if it offended you or anyone else. It wasn’t my intention. Mr. Douglas’ comment to me above was “are you Amish, b/c thats what this sounds like”. So my comment was a play on his comment, nothing more and nothing less. But like i said if it offended you or anyone else i apologize as it wasnt my intention, nor did i see it in that light.
Enough all of you.
Jehovah’ Witness you don’t know anything about Morman’s either.
Elder is use in my church for those men in charge. Different from a deacon or a trustee.
Funny how you all want tolerance but its on sided.
Enough already. The man was protecting his mom. Circumstantial evidence or whatever.
Give it a rest.

The words ‘their names are “Elder” and “Elder”.’ state that they are Mormons.
But people need to STOP being critical of Jehovah’s Witnesses because those who are critical do not know one bit about JWs.
So go to the Kingdom Halls and talk to them and listen for a change.
