UPDATE: Winter weather advisory here cancelled

The National Weather Service office in Chanhassen has cancelled the winter weather advisory for Scott County today.

Light snow will continue into the afternoon over parts of south-central Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin. Additional snow accumulations will be mainly under an inch. Some areas of south-central Minnesota could received up to 2 inches of new snow, mainly on grassy areas.

The snow should not impact or hamper motorists today.

The National Weather Service office in Chanhassen has issued a winter weather advisory for Scott County.

The NWS said 3 to 5 inches snow will fall in south-central Minnesota and a small part of west-central Wisconsin. The advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.



Yikes! A frost advisory for Shakopee area

The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for Scott County from midnight until 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Cold high pressure over the region tonight will allow temperatures to fall to near freezing by daybreak Wednesday with widespread frost occurring, said the weather service.

A frost advisory means that frost is possible. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.



Wind advisory for Shakopee area until 7 p.m. today

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory in effect until 7 p.m. for the Shakopee area.

Northwest winds sustained at around 30 mph, with gusts to 45 mph, are expected across central and southern Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin today. The strong winds are associated with a low pressure system over the Great Lakes.

A wind advisory means that winds of 30 mph or more are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.



Tornado watch here until 10 p.m.; severe storms expected tonight

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the area this afternoon that remains in effect until 10 p.m.

The watch includes the Twin Cities area. The weather service said that severe storms are expected throughout much of central Minnesota tonight and they could produce flash floods and tornadoes. After Friday night's heavy rains, storms tonight could produce flash flooding, the weather service said.

Heat advisory, flash-flood watch for Scott County today

A heat advisory for Scott County is in effect from noon to 6 p.m. today.

The National Weather Service office in Chanhassen said a warm front situated over south-central Minnesota will push a little farther north today, reaching parts of the Twin Cities. Temperatures will climb to the upper 80s to around 90, and combined with high humidity, will put heat index into the 95 to 100 range during the afternoon.

Severe-thunderstorm warning for southwestern Scott County

A severe-thunderstorm warning has been issued for southwestern Scott County until 3 p.m.

At 2:20 p.m., radar indicated a severe thunderstorm, capable of producing quarter-size hail. This storm was located 3 miles southwest of Belle Plaine, or about 20 miles north of st peter, and moving southeast at 10 mph.
