Snow will taper off today

A winter storm that dumped more than half a foot of snow across Scott County will come to an end this morning.

According to the National Weather Service, 6.6 inches of snow has fallen on Shakopee since Sunday night.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for Scott County until noon Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen.

Periods of moderate snow will continue into this evening, with a gradual tapering overnight into Tuesday morning.

Overnight accumulations of 1 to 3 inches across east-central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, are expected. Additional snowfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches can be expected over south-central Minnesota.



Shakopee schools, Park and Rec cancel evening activities

Shakopee Public Schools has canceled most of its evening activities.

After-school programs, including YMCA child care and youth community education classes, are canceled. Some adult Community Education classes will go on as scheduled. Contact Community Ed at (952) 496-5098.

While some varsity sports may hold optional practices, practice is canceled for all lower-level teams, according to the district's communication office. The fitness center at the high school will close after school.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for Scott County until noon Tuesday.

Snow will increase in intensity this morning lasting through this evening, with a gradual tapering overnight into Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen.

The daytime snowfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches are expected. The total snowfall amounts by Tuesday morning is expected to be between 6 and 11 inches.

A winter storm watch has been issued for Scott County from tonight through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen.

Moderate snowfall is expected to spread over the area this evening and persist through Monday night. The heaviest snow is expected from late tonight and throughout the day on Monday.

Two-day snowfall of 6 to 10 inches with possibly higher amounts is expected, according to the weather service.

A winter storm watch is in effect from Sunday afternoon through late Monday night for Scott County, according to the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen.

Snow is likely to spread over the area Sunday afternoon and persist through Monday night. The heaviest snow is expected from late Sunday night through the day on Monday.

Snowfall could be in excess of 10 inches over the two-day period.

Gusty winds will develop into Monday night, resulting in areas of blowing and drifting snow with significantly reduced visibilities.

A winter-weather advisory has been issued for Scott County until 6 a.m. Friday.

The National Weather Service office in Chanhassen said there will be a mixture of snow and freezing drizzle this evening, which will likely leave a light coating of ice on untreated surfaces and lead to very slippery conditions.

Snow accumulation could reach an inch by daybreak Friday.



Wind-chill advisory issued for Scott County tonight, Thursday morning

The National Wearther Service office in Chanhassen has canceled the winter-weather advisory for Scott County that had been in effect until 6 p.m. today.

While rain will continue this afternoon, with surface air temperatures steady between 33 and 36 degrees over east-central and south-central Minnesota, much of the rain is reportedly no longer freezing by law enforcement. It is likely secondary untreated roads will remain icy through this afternoon though.
