Longtime Shakopee hairdresser Mary Lou Sinnen continues to cut and style hair three days a week at Saks Salon on First. Sinnen, 80, has been a hairdresser since 1951; she used to own three salons in Shakopee, Chaska and Chanhassen with her mother and sister. Saturday’s unseasonably warm weather drew hundreds of kids and their parents to the annual Pumpkins in the Park, sponsored by the Shakopee Chamber of Commerce, at Memorial Park. Kids trick-or-treated around a walking path, played games, enjoyed refreshments and left with a pumpkin of their choice.

Scott Soil and Water Conservation District in Jordan is hosting the 25-year of Outdoor Education Days, an opportunity for the county’s fifth- and sixth-graders to get back in touch with nature. More than 1,200 students from 15 schools will parade through a 10-acre outdoor classroom on the Bisek Brothers farm near New Prague, learning about wildlife, plants and water systems.
