Shakopee Parks and Recreation and the Shakopee Lions Club sponsored a Jack Frost New Year's Eve Party Dec. 31 at Lions Park. Families spent time sledding, ice skating, sipping hot chocolate and warming up around the bonfire.

Shakopee High School senior Ashley Wittman was honored Monday as Gatorade's National Volleyball Player of the Year. The student body gathered in the gymnasium to honor Wittman, who led the Sabers to three state volleyball championships. She will play next fall for the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Local residents climbed aboard a donkey for a game of basketball at Shakopee Parks and Recreation's Donkey Basketball Saturday. The event raised money for HOPE scholarship fund, which provides recreation opportunities to those in the community that are experiencing financial hardship.
