The ecology and environmental ethics class is team taught by Ed Loiselle and Bill Koenig and is featured in Thursday's Shakopee Valley News' Saber Tracks. Area students participated in the eighth annual Future Leaders of Scott County Day Friday. During the day, eighth- and ninth-grade students from Scott County schools learned about county government by shadowing employees, taking guided tours and participating in a mock County Board meeting and trial. A grass fire burned nearly 100 acres of land by Dean Lake in Shakopee April 15. Firefighters from around the southwest metro were called in to help control the fire. No homes were destroyed in the fire. Here is a slideshow of staff and reader-submitted photos from the fire.

Students at Red Oak Elementary in Shakopee had a chance to throw a pie in their teachers face during an assembly April 8 in the school gym. The assembly was in honor of Red Oaks General Mills Box Tops for Education collection. The school raised more than $2,800 this school year. Watch a slideshow of photos from the event.

Youth scrambled to collect Easter eggs April 4 at the Shakopee Jaycee’s annual Easter Spring Fling egg hunt at Lions Park. About 400 dads and daughters of all ages danced the night away Saturday at the fourth annual Daddy/Daughter Dance, hosted by Shakopee Community Education.
