New report shows some STDs surged in 2010 in Minnesota
A new report from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) shows that the number of reportable sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in Minnesota climbed to a new high of 17,760 in 2010, alarming health officials. Reportable STDs in Minnesota include chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis. There were 16,912 cases reported in 2009. UPDATE: Second crest likely this weekend
The Minnesota River is leveling out and its second crest is expected to hit Shakopee this weekend, according to the National Weather Service. The river is estimated to be at 711.8 feet right now and rise just slightly before beginning its gradual descent on Saturday. 158 DWI arrests reported in state's worst impaired-driving counties during March
Enhanced impaired-driving patrols conducted in the state’s 13 counties with the most alcohol-related deaths and serious injuries, including Scott, resulted in 158 arrests for driving while intoxicated in March — with 40 percent coming on St. Patrick’s Day. Extra transit services made available due to flooding now canceled
Interim transit services made available due to flooding in the area have been cancelled. Area transit providers BlueXpress Bus and SouthWest Transit were offering extra routes and services but they have been cancelled because the Highway 41 bridge crossing between Shakopee and Chaska has reopened and the additional lanes and traffic signal adjustments on Highway 169 have kept traffic flowing, local officials said.
Area projects included on MnDOT's 2011 construction list
The Minnesota Department of Transportation today announced a nearly $900 million statewide transportation construction program for 2011, which includes a new interchange at Highway 13 and County Road 101 in Savage and the Highway 169 and Interstate Highway 494 interchange. As anticipated, routine monitoring by the Minnesota Department of Health has found trace amounts of radioactive material likely from the damaged Japanese nuclear power plants in air samples taken in March from St. Paul and two other locations.
