Regional sewer pipe work to close Eagle Creek Boulevard temporarily

Work is planned on the regional sewer pipe at Eagle Creek Boulevard, just north of Highway 169, starting today. The walking trail in that area will be closed Monday through Wednesday. Average gas prices in Twin Cities rise 12.2 cents in past week

Average retail gasoline prices in the Twin Cities have risen 12.2 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.79 per gallon Sunday. That compares to the national average that has increased 2.8 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.61, according to gasoline price website TwinCitiesGasPrices.com. REMINDER: Portion of County Road 42 closed Monday

On Monday, County Road 42 in Shakopee will be closed all day between county roads 17 (Marschall Road) and 83 (Canterbury Road) to facilitate construction of the interchange at county roads 42 and 17. Crews will be setting the bridge beams and can’t allow traffic neat the area, according to the Scott County Highway Department. The road will close at 7 a.m. and reopen by 4 p.m. A detour will be available.
In time for school
Volunteers from Meadow Spring Community Church in Shakopee helped spruce up Sweeney Elementary Saturday in time for the opening of the school year. The group helped landscape, paint the playground and added new day lilies.

Samendra and jockey Dean Butler won the MTA Stallion Auction Laddie Stakes as the betting favorite on Saturday at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, while All Bets Are Off, at 15 to 1, won the MTA Stallion Auction Lassie with rider Derek Bell in the saddle. Thursday afternoon, 15-year-olds Kyle Steinhoff and Jake Bennett each balanced an extra bike as they bicycled down Marschall Road to meet their buddies, Derek Bonsante, 14, and Aaron Mancini, 13. The two went to a gas station to pump up the bikes for their pals. The boys, all from Shakopee, have spent much of their summer vacation biking around town.

The Minnesota Department of Health said today that a man found to have inhalation anthrax this month had a prior chronic lung condition, which may have made him more susceptible to infection with anthrax, and had multiple exposures to soil and animal products. Three Shakopee Elementary buildings — Eagle Creek, Red Oak and Pearson — were honored Monday with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star certification.
