If I could ask the candidate... by Kristin_Holtz
City and School Board races are heating up as we get closer to the Nov. 8 election. What questions would you ask the candidates for mayor, Shakopee City Council or School Board?

Yes, racino at Canterbury park.

Rec center and Ice, Not at the moment because of global economy.  The city would need around $6 million, just a tough time for non essentials. not saying a second sheet wouldnt be nice, we also need a fire station and some road work. Cant afford them all at the same time.

Tax increases, I have multiple plans to hold taxes steady or even lower them.

use bonding for the firestation because the current station bonds are almost paid and the new station debt will be much less, this lowers your line item charge on your property tax statement.

The city has no new building needs in the near future (besides fire above) so cut the rental charge or shift it to road overlays, this reduces the budget/levy by $250,000 in 2012  and $500,000 in 2013

Lower the sewer and storm charges residents pay because based on the current account balances of Over $14mil each and growing, are the taxpayers being overcharged is the question.

It,s hard to imagine that property values have dropped 33%, unemployment is still above 9%, foreclosures are everywhere, and many aspects of the economy are concerning yet taxes at all levels continue to rise.  I view it as my responsibility to help the taxpayers.

City candidate positions; School Board positions

I would like to know the City candidates positions on two items:
-A Racino at Canterbury Park
-the Shakopee Community Center and additional ice rinks.
Do you have a plan to keep the City from raising taxes?
I would like to know the School Board candidates positions on two items:
-What are you going to do to improve test scores
-building new schools and operating referendums.
Do you have a plan to keep the School Board from raising taxes?
