"We don't have high-powered lobbyists, we don't have the muscle of Minneapolis," Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke said in an online message today, urging the public to contact Gov. Mark Dayton's office in support of a Vikings stadium in Shakopee.

Dayton has said he will be reviewing the plans this weekend and announcing his preferred option next week.

"We need to keep the momentum moving today with at least 500 contacts to the Governer," Tabke said.

Tabke's message appears to be working, with Tweets going out to Governor Mark Dayton.

A Facebook page has been started by resident Jeremy Casper in support of the "People's Stadium" being located in Shakopee.

Dayton can be contacted by e-mail, phone or Tweet (@GovMarkDayton).

Tabke has a new online post, answering questions about a possible stadium in Shakopee and outlining what transportation improvements might be needed.

Mayor Egotist ran for election for personal reasons, to promote his personal agenda and receive publicity, with little or no regard for the City. The proposal for a stadium that he and his cronies presented to the State was a disgrace for the community. To present a proposal with inaccurate statements regarding traffic and infrastructure, no monetary backing and no guaranteed backing from the community is comparable to the proposal to build the stadium from lumber bought from Menards for $100K. Fortunately the Governor was wise enough to see the shortcomings of this proposal.

When you aim high be sure the sun doesn't blind you.

It's interesting that those who dare to ask questions are labeled naysayers. Quit reading what you want to into comments and chew on this for a while:

I am not necessarily against a Vikings Stadium in Shakopee.

I'm against the behind-the-scenes maneuvering employed by the mayor to promote what he's made clear is HIS proposal.

Mayor Tabke's known for months about this possibility; why wasn't our city council informed? Why didn't he invite city councilors to participate in the last-minute planning sessions instead of the guy behind "Save the Vikes" and a member of the chamber of commerce? These people were NOT elected to represent Shakopee!

Why is OUR MAYOR urging HIS SUPPORTERS to attend our city council meeting? Why not encourage everyone to attend?

Mayor Tabke campaigned on promoting business that will stimulate Shakopee's economy, and I believe his drive and enthusiasm for our community is a large part of why he was elected. But, whoa! He needs to pull back on the reins a little bit and slow down, or he's going to fall off that horse he rode into town.

Can I get some specifics about what is so bad about the stadium?

Traffic= Ever seen 169 during the Renissance Festival?

Crime= Ever read the police report from ValleyFair?

Noise= Ever heard Raceway or Canterbury on the weekend?

So really what is the big uproar about the stadium? Specifics Please. And I would hope some of you that are SO NEGATIVE, please run for Mayor next time!!!!!

I agree with OnlyMe1, I beleive a stadium in Shakopee would provide econmic benefit to the area.Shakopee is already a regional destination, let's try and build on that. With the transportation upgrades already in progress and being discussed, Racino as a funding option, land available; I applaud the Mayor for pushing the idea of a stadium here in Shakopee.

The stadium, if it happens, would bring jobs, rising home values, and continued growth to Shakopee. It could transform our town from something of a bedroom community to a real destination for people from all over Minnesota and the midwest. With the stadium would come retail, dining, lodging, etc. I think it's a long shot. But, I applaud the Mayor for aiming high....that's not something you see much of in Shakopee.

Let's applaud the Mayor? WHY? For sitting at Perkins; remember Mayor, Conference Room "P", and drawing up Stadium Proposables at the last minute. I wonder who had the Green Crayon. Is Mayor Tabke going to be the "Get Smart" Mayor, you know "I missed it by that much". I hope everything is not going to be an after thought. Mayor Tabke, keep your family time private. Don't tweet, blog, townhall, and Facebook your every movement. Also, don't tweet, Facebook or blog that you go to Chaska to swim or that you go else where to entertain your family. Makes you sound elitist and for the most part, people don't care. Mayor, you have been elected Prom King now move out! Shakopee, hold the Mayor and the City Council accountable for their action.

Aiming High is something up don't see much....?? Have you seen the way Shakopee has grown?

Big_Phish - I agree, the mayor should not let everyone know his every move. And if he is going to blog, (i.e. on Moving Shakopee Forward) he should have his wife proofread the entries before posting them; she is a high school English teacher.

Oh, come on, you two! No one is forcing you to read the mayor's blog.

As for grammatical and spelling errors, "People in glass houses ..." and all that.

C.E. the mayor tells people to go out and read his blogs, watch the videochats, etc. to keep up with "what's happening" in the mayor's office/Shakopee. They are just saying keep your private life private; he's a public figure now and public figures CAN draw in the weirdoos and intrusive behavior into the private life.

Now I get it. BP and Phyllis were expressing their concern for the mayor's safety.

Heartwarming.

OK, I'm starting to get scared!! I am almost in lock step with CreatedEqual.

No matter where you fall on this subject, Shakopeins or Shakopolisiens (Can't remember what we said was going to be the name of our great residents of Shakopee, as a whole), you need to get more involved. Let Governor (Blank Stare) Dayton, Mayor Tabke, and all the city council members know how you feel.

Shakopee you also need to watch the relationship between Our Mayor and the City Councilors. I have a question: Where do you find out the rolls and responsiblities of the Office of Mayor and the City Councilors? I am concerned that we might have a few Dough Heads in the city council and a persuasive linguist as Mayor that is trying to run over or pass the rules.

BiG Phish - I susspect it's in the City Code somewhere. http://www.ci.shakopee.mn.us/citycode_ord.cfm

It's not easy navigating Laserfiche. Would prefer the city document these things in PDfs to make them easier to search..

At the city council meeting on Tuesday, January 17th, Mayor Tabke has asked for the council to adopt a resolution of support for his plan to build a Vikings Stadium in Shakopee, http://bit.ly/zHfvXh, page 161.

If you're opposed to this endeavor, calling Gov. Dayton is a waste of time. Instead, contact a city council member with your concerns.

Councilor Steven Clay, [email protected], 952-445-6214.

Councilor Matt Lehman, [email protected], 952-496-2069.

Councilor Pamela Punt, [email protected], 612-234-1224.

Councilor Jay Whiting, [email protected], 952-496-0959, 952-746-6325.

Would help to attend the meeting as well if possible. Not sure there's enough time to organize a group and a spokesperson to voice the concerns at the meeting, but people showing up either with buttons or name tags voicing their opposition to the proposal will provide added visibility.

The mayor must have read my post. Now he's tweeting for people who support the stadium to attend the meeting. It's crucial for anyone against this to contact their councilors and attend the meeting if possible. I'm afraid that silence on this issue may be interpreted as support.

I for one will be contacting the governor to asking to disregard this proposal. It seems to more of a publicity stunt than an actual proposal.

Yeah you are right, it would really be a bad idea to have more restuarants, entertainment, and tax revenue in Shakopee. I guess we are pretty set with an Applebees, Ruby Tuesday, and a Perkins for restaurants and an abandoned ADC building. Hurry up and build before all of Shakopee is owned by a nearby group.

To firsttimecaller -

So by bring in the Vikings, without actually thinking, we get more chain restaurants and bars and trouble, cool. Sorry, but I still say "no" it is a ill thought out plan and will end up costing the tax payers of this town more, rather than less.

The Shakopee proposal for a Vikings stadium was the subject of Almanac show last night on Twin Cities Public Television.

I strongly urge the citizens opposed to the stadium being in Shakopee to contact Governor Dayton requesting that he reject the Shakopee proposal.
